What is the IACH Cape Horn Hall of Fame?

The International Association of Cape Horners has inaugurated a Cape Horn Hall Fame to honour the names of famous Cape Horners past and present. The annual awards have won long-term sponsorship from the French port of Les Sables d’Olonne, home to both the Vendeé Globe and Golden Globe solo round the world races. The first inauguration was held at a gala event there on Wednesday August 31 st , four days before the start of the 2022/3 Golden Globe Race.

Yannick Moreau, Mayor of Les Sables d’Olonne says: “Les Sables d’Olonne has a strong association with solo circumnavigations, and now we have become the home of the Cape Horn Hall of Fame and all the history that is attached to the Cape. We look forward to revealing the first famous Cape Horners on our Honours Board in August.”

Ashley Manton, Chairman of the International Association of Cape Horners (IACH) says: “We are delighted to be announcing the foundation of the Cape Horn Hall of Fame which will now be an annual event generously hosted by Les Sables d’Olonne. The Association honours those who have achieved one of the greatest feats in sailing – to round this infamous South American Cape. We hope that The Cape Horn Hall of Fame will now encourage future generations to follow their course and set new records in events like the Vendeé Globe, Golden Globe, Ocean Globe and Global Solo Challenge races.”

Inductees will be drawn from a list of nominations selected by an independent committee, based on their achievements, and voted on by all members of the International Association of Cape Horners.
